The ’60s were in full swing at Izzy Lane’s New York Fashion Week debut at The GreenShows on Wednesday. Decked in jaunty knitted berets, plaid micro-mini skirts, and faux-snakeskin go-go boots, the models flounced down the runway looking like they made a wrong turn at a time vortex on Carnaby Street. With the syrupy strains of “Georgy Girl” fueling the sartorial flashback, the woes of Wall Street and contention over healthcare reform seemed a lifetime away. Fashion, after all, is nothing if not about escapism.

Izzy Lane’s approach to fashion is also a compassionate one, weaving its knitwear from Wensleydale and Shetland wool from sheep that were saved from slaughter for being male, for missing a pregnancy, for being too old, or for mottled imperfections in their fleeces.
From this outcast flock, designer Isobel Davies renders candy-colored, open-knit striped tanks and lustrous, fine-gauge sweater dresses with plunging V-necks. But Davies dabbles in more-contemporary silhouettes, as well: A mauve three-button blouse features décolletage-flashing cutouts near the collarbone, while a ruffle-collared cardigan sizzles in scorching fuschia.
