Gallery: 3 Celebrities Who Wore Eco-Fashion to the 2016 Oscars

Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner, supermodel Lily Cole, and Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender turned the Oscar red carpet green Sunday night by making sartorial statements for a healthier planet. Turner and Cole, in particular, stumped for Suzy Amis Cameron's Red Carpet Green Dress campaign, now in its seventh year. Turner, who plays the hapless Sansa Stark on the hit HBO drama, elected to wear an ethical gown by London's Galvan. Cole, who made forays in films like The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Snow White and the Huntsman, donned a Vivienne Westwood creation made from recycled plastic bottles.

GREEN CARPET

“As sustainable fashion becomes more urgent, Red Carpet Green Dress is honored to partner with two rising stars, Sophie Turner and Lily Cole, showcasing that fashion can be humane, environmentally friendly, and absolutely stunning,” said Amis Cameron, who launched her initiative-cum-design-competition during her husband James Cameron’s awards-circuit victory lap in 2010. “We’re also thrilled and honored that the formidable Vivienne Westwood and her team [were] once again behind the scenes working fashion magic with us.”

Fassbender, who played the titular character in Steve Jobs, wore a black grain de poudre tuxedo designed exclusively by Tom Ford for the Green Carpet Challenge, a movement co-founded by Eco-Age creative director Livia Firth to raise the profile of ethical fashion on the red carpet.

Comprising Oeko-Tex-certified, European-spun and -woven wool, along with peak lapels and satin details, the suit is hardly Fassbender’s first time in “green.” The actor wore another Tom Ford tuxedo on behalf of the Green Carpet Challenge at the Golden Globe Awards in January. He also flew the flag for the cause at the 2012 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards, where he wore an ethical-wool tuxedo by Giorgio Armani.

“Taking part in the Green Carpet Challenge no longer feels like a challenge,” Fassbender said in a statement. “Wearing classic tuxedos by the world’s best designers that have been designed with sustainability in mind seems natural.”

A special mention goes to actress and Grease Live! performer Vanessa Hudgens, who wore a bespoke H&M Conscious column dress, made from organic silk and wood fiber, to Vanity Fair’s Oscar party.

Lily Cole also carried Jill Milan’s clutch to the event. Jill Milan is cruelty-free and sweatshop-free.
