According to one end-of-life assessment, 60 percent of your clothes’ ecological impact occurs after they go home with you. But it’s not just that planet that could benefit from proper laundering, care, and storage. All-weather staples, like your favorite pair of jeans, could also use some TLC to keep them in fighting shape. We’ve corralled seven of our favorite environment- and denim-pandering tips.

CARE PACKAGE
The greenest pair of jeans? The ones that are in it for the long haul, not just a season or two. Extend your dungarees’ lifespan by giving them some ol’ fashioned TLC, from the commonsensible (washing them in cold) to the unorthodox (putting them on ice, literally). Our six smartypants tips will help you keep your denim looking like the day you first wore them.
