Wearable technology has always been more hype than hope. But the rapidly growing intersection between fashion and technology does have its glimmers of brilliance, whether it’s streamlining existing technology, improving an afflicted person’s quality of life, or adding a dash of whimsy to the quotidian.

Celebrities, early adopters and trendsetters that they are, have cottoned onto wearable technology as extensions of their larger-than-life public personas. With influential advocates like Katy Perry, Bono, Rihanna, and of course, Lady Gaga, wearable technology’s future is one that is writ large.

And today’s flash and circumstance could very well be tomorrow’s practical application. We won’t be pulling on any skirts by Skynet, but you catch our drift.
