Despite all appearances, Nordin insists he didn’t spend every waking moment obsessing over the map. “It hasn’t taken all of my time,” he said. “You get a bit sick of such long lasting projects. The great thing is that I’ve been able to take as many breaks as I’ve wanted to.”

We’re inclined to believe the man. In the time it took to finish the blanket, Nordin won the Norwegian Sky Diving Championship twice, finished two university degrees, started a new job, and crocheted smaller stuffed figures for his friends and family.

So what’s next, Mr. Overachiever? “I have no idea, but I’ve gotten some suggestions,” Nordin said. “I spent such a long time thinking before I chose this project, so I can’t rush it. I’ll have a break, and think for a while.”
