Dircks and Elkin, who boast extensive backgrounds in textile and fashion design in Australia and the United Kingdom, glean their inspiration from the beauty of the great outdoors. “The designs themselves have been thoughtfully constructed to be both comfortable and of a simple, graceful style,” the duo tells us.

ALAS’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection was sparked by “hummingbirds, the color of coral, and natural symmetry.”

For ALAS’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection—the label’s fourth—the designers were sparked by “hummingbirds, the color of coral, natural symmetry and practical simplicity,” they add. “Dusk Rhythms” boasts intricate mirrored patterns, vibrant hues, and details like contrast piping and smocked waistbands.

A recent winner of Ethical Fashion Forum’s “Pure Spirit Award,” ALAS strives to create a brand that is socially and ecologically responsible. (Even the brand’s packaging, swing tags, and business cards are recycled and recyclable.) “[We want] the wearer to sleep and dream in complete comfort, with peace of mind,” Dircks and Elkin add.
