Anthropologie’s “Legend & Song” Line Spotlights East African Artisans
Anthropologie is throwing the spotlight on artisans in East Africa. The apparel-and-housewares retailer has launched a limited-edition collection of clothing and accessories that celebrates the traditional artistry of Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Developed with help from Bhavana World Project and the U.S. Agency for International Development, "Legend & Song" puts a modern twist on time-honored weaving, dyeing, and embroidery techniques. Among the standouts: earthy, one-of-a-kind jewelry made by Uru using locally, ethically sourced rough diamonds and unpolished precious stones; a Dutch-wax tank-and-skirt combo from Mille Collines; Gahaya Links' beaded, Shibori-dyed scarf; and a leather peplum top stitched and tie-dyed by Sammy.
