Drawing upon tropical influences, Auralis' Spring 2011 collection at The GreenShows at New York Fashion Week offered a slice of 1970s Puerto Rico with a contemporary twist. By far the most wearable of all the collections we've seen so far at the Metropolitan Pavilion, Auralis imbued contemporary, urban silhouettes with an easy, breezy flair that had sun, sea, and sand written all over them. And trust us, we're not talking about the hempy looks of yesteryear. Recycled hemp, organic cotton, soy jersey, and peace silk colluded to create refined, fluid lines that are as elegant as they are resort-ready.
TROPIC THUNDER
The overall look of the collection was casual and clean, although some of our favorite pieces were a bit more dressy, like a refreshing marigold-hued flowy dress and a dangerously low cut (in the back) dress in a sultry red. Pieces like a body-con, light-blue jumpsuit and yellow slouchy pants (that Eco-Chick’s Starre Vartan, who was sitting next to us during the show wanted to add to her own wardrobe) were on trend without being so faddish that they’d never be worn again. Also, we were pleasantly surprised to see some men’s looks that were equally fresh and chic, but not so trendy that a real man would never wear them.
