Who decreed that hangers had to limited to plastic, metal, or wood? Swiss design studio Bernhard Burkard went against the grain—so to speak—when they devised a lightweight, revolving textile hanger from traditionally woven Eastern European belts. Part of Yellow Planet, an upcoming intercultural collaboration between the Ukraine and Switzerland, the “Oksana” imbues centuries-old craftsmanship with modern-day relevance.
Anchored only by a wooden slat, the hanger’s brevity of form offers an elegant contrast to its bold motifs. Old and new coexist harmoniously without diminishing the other.

“The goal was it to bring these traditional products in a contemporary design context,” Thomas Burkard, who co-founded the firm, tells Ecouterre. “They are one part of an cultural and economical exchange project that should support both side in a sustainable way.”
What can we say? We’re hooked.
