“The two-piece boot concept has been around for a while, but I hadn’t seen it executed in a way that I would actually wear,” Pineda told Ecouterre. “I’m often traveling between cold and warm climates and being able to turn an ankle boot into an over-the-knee boot without packing another pair of shoes is a concept we think we speak to the many ‘travelistas’ out there.”
Setting out to create an ethical boot as chic as “any pair in Barney’s,” Pineda spent several years matching the right materials to the right manufacturing partner.
Now that she’s finally “100 percent confident in the design, quality, and comfort of this boot,” Pineda is turning to crowdsourcing to reach her target customer: the woman who values effortless elegance and quality but refuses to compromise on comfort.
“Our woman wants a durable shoe that is fashionable enough to inspire compliments, but does not in anyway interfere with her ability to function,” Pineda explained. “She’s also committed to a better, kinder future, and it makes her feel good to know that she is helping to support an independent brand trying to do what’s right in an ocean of mass-produced products run with a profit-first mentality.”

But you don’t have to buy a whole shoe to support the campaign. Anyone who pledges $35 or more gets a skinny belt made of the same material as the boots, and, per Pineda, an “essential part of an effective capsule wardrobe.”
