The textile range is created entirely from hand-woven, 100% natural cotton and dyed with indigo. This is a traditional antique Chinese fabric from Southeast China, which were woven over 20 years ago. The skill and process involved is apparent in the cloth itself: after picking natural cotton the weavers would build layers within the fabrics using seventy-two complex production processes. This means the fabrics are hard-wearing, but laced with the raw charm of handwoven cloth, incorporating simple lines of other colors within the various shades of blue. These fabrics are then transformed into a huge range of beautifully designed household and fashion items including bags, purses, and pencil cases.

Each of Brut Cake’s pottery work follows a similar philosophy, but a shorter process. They are hand crafted in China and, although each is an original piece made using different types of clay, have a uniform style, but leave a little section of each piece raw and unglazed. This, they say, is to keep an element connected to the earth it came from. A lighthearted illustration of a face is often painted somewhere on the item giving the pieces a quirky dimension and a unique personality. This collection of ceramics is made up of an ever evolving array of cups, bowls, lamps, plates and more besides, each as charming as the other.

Brut Cake’s furniture pieces are made using reclaimed items that are then lovingly restored and given a unique touch of the brand’s flair. They focus on antique materials such as wood which are upcycled using the fabric and designs that are typical of the brand. Each of these items – such as chairs and sofas – are covered with an original collage into customized designs, yet maintain the story and craft of the item in its original form. The collection also includes a series of ceramic lamps which are suspended from the ceiling.

As if all this creative and stylish design weren’t enough, Brut Cake have recently evolved their fashion range, creating select items of cozy and cool clothing that mixes simple design with quirky ideas.
