As one of Hollywood’s staunchest environmental advocates, Cameron Diaz probably needed little convincing to join Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge. The veteran actress cut a glittering form at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala on Monday night in a low-back column dress by Stella McCartney. Made of Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)-certified silk and embellished with thousands of glass beads and crystal chain, the gown offered Firth and company a “new challenge for the future as we work on traceability and sourcing embellished materials,” she writes on her blog.

SHINY, HAPPY PEOPLE

The Eco-Age creative director was no slouch in the glamour department herself. Showing up on the arm of her Oscar-winning actor husband, Colin, Firth donned a black-paneled Prada gown assembled from certified-organic silks, tulle, and chiffon, along with sustainably harvested ostrich feathers and end-of-roll British-made lace. “It’s testament to the inventiveness of Guisi Bettoni—who put together our GCC fabric library—that even the ostrich feathers are certified!” quips Firth, who finished her look with jewelry from Monique Péan and a clutch from Donna Karan’s “Naturally Haiti” project.

The Met Ball toasted the opening of Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversation, a new exhibit.

Firth’s choice of Prada wasn’t an accident, of course. The gala toasted the opening of Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, a new exhibit that explores the affinity between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras. “I’m not sure I convinced Miuccia of the necessity of green fashion but the hallmark of a great design house is that they were so willing to experiment,” Firth says. “I am hugely proud of what this gown has achieved.”
