Independent design brand Celia B brings color, fun, and incredible craftsmanship together in these vibrant collections of garments. Founder and designer Celia Bernardo has travelled extensively around the world, sourcing beautiful handcrafted textiles and transforming them into these amazing unique designs, highlighting the story of the artisans with the very fabrics themselves. Featuring unique exotic cloth from Thailand to Guatemala, her collections also includes handmade patchwork, spun yarn, and pieces of crochet that garnered international attention as she launched her brand two years ago. Following her recent headline show at Shanghai Fashion Week, the China-based designer is continuing to play with imaginative styles to help anyone bring vibrant patterns into their wardrobe.
Bernardo initially moved from her native Spain to continue working as a designer at top brand Zara. But since then she has found her way into the independent fashion world and is taking it by storm. Chinese cities such as Shanghai are renowned as some of the best design hubs on the planet at the moment. But what sets Celia B’s designs apart are the unique stories of each piece embedded within the items. Her previous collection is created from cloth from India when she discovered handmade pieces crafted with intricate detail. Back in her studio in Shanghai she carefully studied each piece of fabric and transformed what were previously skirts and quilts from Rajisthan into these fantastic modern styles.
As well as this stunning array of inventive color and prints, Celia B’s collection includes daring necklaces and earrings designed to make any outfit look entirely original. Some of these are handmade locally by women in Bernardo’s neighbourhood. Accessories also include multi-print handbags, clutches and purses, shoes handmade in Morocco, and African-inspired headbands. Her collection for the home follows the same philosophy of bringing vibrant and joyful design indoors, with cushion covers and quilts.
Celia B is located in a stunning studio space in Shanghai. But for those readers not based in the city check out her unmissable online lookbook.
