As the wise (if fictional) Miranda Hobbes once noted after moving to Brooklyn and braving a very long commute, “You can take me out of Manhattan but you can’t take me out of my shoes.” Any woman who’s had to hoof it to and from work knows that slipping on a pair of heels can cause days of painful regret, not to mention disdain for that co-worker who breezes past your cubicle all day in her platform pumps. Enter Day2Night, a versatile shoe with five heel heights you can swap in or out at will.

Designed by Candice Leigh Cabe and Nadine Lubkowitz, two Bostonians who tired of packing suitcases full of shoes for business trips, Day2Night morphs from a sweet kitten heel to a sky-high stiletto in seconds. You don’t have to deal with cumbersome shoe bags, either. The five heel tips come in a box small enough to slip into a small purse or clutch, providing all the shoe you need in a single footprint. “Now you ladies won’t have to wear sneakers on your commute to work in the morning or carry extra shoes in your purse when going out at night,” Cabe says.

If a heel tip wears out, you only have to replace it, saving a trip to the cobbler’s or, worse, the trash heap.

At $300 a set, the Day2Night isn’t the most affordable of shoes—that is, until you realize you’re getting a quintet’s worth of wear for the price of one. Plus, Cabe adds, if a heel tip wears out, you only have to replace it, saving a trip to the cobbler’s or, worse, the trash heap.

And for a limited time, its debut shoe, a black patent peep-toe slingback called the “Marissa,” is available at an introductory price of $149, with heels that range from a slight 1.5 inches to a vertiginous 3.5.
