One of eco-fashion’s own steamrolled the competition on Friday to win the inaugural challenge of Project Runway’s eighth season. Portland designer Gretchen Jones, who heads up the sustainable label MothLove, beat out 16 others on “And Sew It Begins” by deconstructing a fellow contestant’s spangly capelet into a winsome frock—a “historic unanimous decision,” according to judge Heidi Klum. “I always want to be fashion first,” Jones said on the show. “I want you to purchase me because I’m an amazing brand that just happens to be green.”
