The Moulin Rouge theme was evident, from the velvet-draped grand ballroom to the three-dimensional cabaret-style hairdos on the runway. Before the show kicked off, singer Michelle Branch serenaded the audience with an acoustic version of her lullaby “Crazy Ride.” Global Green also singled out Levi’s Water<Less Campaign and Patagonia’s Common Threads Initiative, endorsed by eBay, for their contributions to a more sustainable fashion industry.
This year’s event raised $250,000 to benefit Global Green’s “Green School” work, affordable housing projects, and the build-back initiatives for a greener New Orleans.

Also announced at the event was the winner of Global Green’s Green School Makeover contest: The Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, TX, which received $130,000 in prize money.
Standouts included a Daisy Buchanan-esque chartreuse ruffled number (that a gentleman beside us dubbed a “cnidarian” for its jellyfish-like attributes), a paper-bag-waisted lavender skirt paired with a raw-silk military-inspired blouse, and an elegant multihued piña fiber frock with hand-stitched beading. Another favorite: Torentino’s full-length yellow gown, which someone quipped resembled a silk-chiffon lemon meringue pie.
