When it comes to green fashion, we can’t think of any other designer that is as wholeheartedly involved as eco-wonderwoman Bahar Shahpar. It’s difficult to believe that one human being is doing all of this! From crafting her eponymous sustainable line to coordinating multiple eco-fashion events to being a consultant to other designers interested in upping the ante by incorporating eco-conscious fabrics into their collections, Shahpar is always juggling something new every time we have the pleasure of running into her. She has accomplished so much and pushed so hard to bring people’s attention to environmental responsibility in the clothing industry that we truly don’t think the green fashion movement would be where it is now without her.

We got our first glimpse of rock star Bahar’s playful and unique eco-friendly fashions in 2007 and it was love at first sight. The complete antithesis of the hempy, burlappy stereotypes that have long plagued green fashion, Shahpar’s fun colors, interesting silhouettes, and flawless tailoring have made her garments some of the most coveted by stylistas—both green and not green.

The secret of Shahpar’s popularity seems to be her ability to cut iconic, flattering shapes from innovative fabrics that you’ll feel good about wearing. We especially loved the plaid prepster jumper and flower babydoll dress from collections past, and who could forget that sassy cocktail dress with the plunging draped cowl back from last spring? The beauty of these looks? They’re so timeless that you can totally keep wearing them for seasons to come—and ya can’t get any more sustainable than that.
