When asked about her inspiration, Cekanaviciute offered a poem by way of explanation:
“A seed can’t help but rise up
from the darkness where it lays.
It has to.
It must sprout upwards,
It must see the sun,
It must unleash all power
stored within itself.”

By toying with the traditional construction process, Cekanaviciute was able to create “plots” for corralling the soil and seedlings, which she describes as “growing carelessly in the various parts of garments.” A sleeve is no longer just a sleeve, nor a pant pocket just a pant pocket. Rather, the deconstructed elements become a form of shelter and “carrying construction for the shooting sprouts.”
Talk about daring, creative fashion that’s a breath of fresh air.
