Lupe Castro, one of London’s preeminent ethical-fashion stylists, has stumbled upon the quintessential dream “job.” After growing tired of limiting her travels to compartmentalized holidays, the chic jet-setter decided to extend her globe-trotting indefinitely. Accompanied by her soulmate, the mysterious “Mr. P,” a motorbike, and an infectious joie de vivre, Castro documents the road less traveled and the kindred spirits she encounters through her blog, Ms. Castro on a Motorbike.

A GIRL AND HER BIKE

Castro, who has worked with celebrities such as Livia Firth, championed sustainable fashion long before “sustainable” became a buzzword. (Forays in the farming industry as a youth certainly helped.)

Castro admits that her limited options have freed her to be more creative with her everyday choices.

Although fashion will always be a guilty pleasure for the stylist, months on the road have forced her to hone in on her favorite can’t-live-without items: “American Apparel tees, Monkee Genes, lingerie from Fred & Ginger, Lavera sunscreen and my iPad,” she quipped to Ecouterre. Castro admits that she cried when Mr. P chucked aside half of her clothes to make room for bike tools, but her limited options have freed her to be more creative with her everyday choices.

So, why a motorbike? “I have always been partial to a wicked-looking bike,” she says. “I think it’s something to do with James Dean and the song, “Born to be Wild.” As the number of pins on her map grows, Castro says she’s become “more and more optimistic about sustainable fashion and design.” Up next: Panama, Costa Rica, and Columbia, plus a trip back to Europe.

Through her continuous updates, Castro uncovers a growing list of rare finds—from hand-painted rubber shoes to jewelry made from fish scales—while speaking to the world traveler in all of us.
