Giuseppe Zanotti Creates Eco-Chic Boot-Sandal Hybrid From Factory Waste

Waste, haste; neither is an attractive option. Thank your lucky stilettos then that Italian designer Giuseppe Zanotti chose to abstain from those twin sins with his latest offering: an ultraluxe boot-sandal hybrid ($585) constructed almost entirely out of design samples and factory-floor waste. Featured in the November 2010 issue of Vogue, the upcycled flat comprises a suede upper derived from discarded handbags, plus a lining pieced together from leftover leather scraps. The base of the shoe, salvaged from a sample that was gathering dust, is pressed into service with a buff new look. And the laces? Hemp, of course. It’s alive.

I’d really love to see these made for men! Especially for use on the shore. With soft rubber grippy soles, like my old Caterpillar sandals had, but with an upper that would support the ankle.
A sandal / boot like this would be highly appealing to the many people who like to go fishing from the rocks, but dont like the “at best” stinky feet from wearing boots all day, especially when they take the odd dunk in seawater. right thru to problems with thing like recurrent athlete’s foot. Making a proper outdoors sandal / boot from recycled foootwear shouldn’t be too much of a problem for shoe manufacturers. You could even make the soles out of recycled, finely chopped and then compressed tyre rubber!
