My hubby and I like going to the local recycling center and scrounging around for good scrap wood to make furniture and art out of. We also like cross country skiing and bocce ball.

It sounds dorky, but when my husband and I lived closer to NYC—and before the birth of our bambino—we loved spending every Saturday browsing the shelves at the New York Public Library in midtown, then lounging with our new acquisitions in Bryant Park.

A green activity that me and my sweetheart enjoy together is carpooling. We both work downtown and use the commute time to “catch up”.

My fiance and I love riding our bicycles throughout the city, either for purpose or pleasure on a regular basis. Last spring, we built a compost bin out of scrap cedar that I got from a deck rebuild. We have a pretty impressive vegetable garden each year that we tend together, and shop locally whenever possible.

Favorite spring date: a morning stroll through farmers market followed by a sunny picnic with all the recently purchased organic, local treats!

My boo and I have started a tradition of riding the subway into Atlanta every Saturday morning to explore the city and discover new cool photo ops. Typically we find a locally-owned coffee shop near the station, and then start our day with an exhilarating stroll through new neighborhoods — often taking pictures of design features we love and talking about our future together.

We love to go hiking on nearby trails – gives us time to reconnect, exercise and tire out the dog all at once!

We kind of make a joke out of this because it is fun for both of us. I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years and almost totally vegan for the past few months. My husband is and was a meat and potatoes guy. Recently because I have been cooking more and more vegan meals I try to make things that he might like. This turns dinner time into an adventure. He is a really good sport and I feel better just knowing that he is getting a little vegan nutrition in his system. And he likes that he is eating something healthy that tastes like the food he is used too! Every little bit helps! And in case you are wondering, so far his favorite by far are my vegan corn fritters! Many Cheers!

My boyfriend and I spent an entire day crushing aluminum cans, we actually made it a game.. lined them up like dominoes and tried to see who could crush the most. It was a blast. We also love antiquing and flea market browsing for previously owned treasures, and gifts for friends and family.

My husband and I enjoy picking berries (when they’re in season). Picking fresh, organic fruits from local farms is a great way to save energy and money (u-pick berries are cheap)! And at least once a week we enjoy juicing OG apples and carrots and find ways to share with others. Our love of organic and locals foods has proved to be contagious.

My husband has really jumped into greening our lifestyle – he’s helped to retrofit our home to be greener and we planted our first vegetable garden last spring – looking forward to doing it again this year! Such a good example for our little girl to see

My boyfriend and I like to take a whole Sunday to walk more than 10 miles to the shore of Lake Michigan. We bring along a backpack full of our homemade organic pizza and ginger beer for a picnic lunch. We like to find a good spot under a tree where we can see the Chicago skyline and watch cyclists and runners whiz by while we eat. Afterwards, we pack up and walk back, taking the time to peer into store windows, photograph street art and dream about which building we’d love to renovate into our own green fantasy home.

We enjoy buying local at the In Season Market in Denver, and composting to grow our own food come the growing season.

i love sundays. its the day my boyfriend and i lay in bed til noon, cuddling and talking and wondering what the future will bring. it makes it that much better to wake up on Valentine’s day when its a sunday.

This sunday we slept in, woke up around 11 to the sweet sound of the birds chirping (florida! this is perfect this time of year to keep your windows open), and started breakfast at noon.

because i love him, i helped make the pizza, pulling the (organic) dough balls we made the night before out of the refrigerator and pressing them once they were warm enough. other than that i watched him work his magic, eating the ripe Plant City grape tomatoes we got from Wednesday’s farmer’s market and chatting til his work was done. my boyfriend works magic & a half hour later we were enjoying our lunch with a lovely view from the patio. =]

let’s see if valentine’s day is this good/cute once the knot’s tied!

When my wife aren’t simply enjoying each others’ company, snuggled in blankets, with our thermostat turned down for the winter, we’re recycling (nearly) everything, purchasing fair trade and organic, and educating our friends and family on environmental and fair trade issues… spending time alone together has to be our favorite though!

  20. jason says:

i like pretending i am doctor david banner turning into the hulk for my wife… is a fun “green” activity.

  21. lakshmi says:

My husband and I are organic farmers on a new adventure to start a CSA in Malaga, Spain! We left behind the corporate grind to pursue our passion and commitment to a healthy earth and people.

  22. leeza says:

We love to go at the local Sunday market from our city (Brest – France)and to buy organic food (fruits, vegetables, salads, milk products, wine); for the mint, dill, parsley, basil, chilly..well…we like to grown them ourselves in pots, instead of flowers so we could have them fresh whenever we want.

  23. aplambeck says:

My sweetheart and I cherish the time we get to spend together, even when we’re both working too hard.

Our favorite activity is enjoying a bike ride to our favorite vegan bakery, where every Sunday we enjoy a vegan brunch buffet before we pedal home.

It’s a great way to spend time together, stay healthy and support an awesome local vegan bakery.

  24. jjschwartz says:

My sweetheart and I both love writing letters and recycling, so we make our own stationery from start to finish! It requires a few different types of paper (used newspapers and recycled copy paper) and several items that we salvaged from flea markets and yard sales, (a few old picture frames, a blender, a dishpan, and old door screens). The process takes a few hours, which makes it a perfect low-key activity for spending time together! Plus, it’s especially fun to do outside on warm, sunny days.

And here’s the best part: for as much as we love writing letters to our family and friends on our homemade stationery, we use most of it to write love letters to each other!
