Organic label Green Embassy bring together ecological and ethical issues through fashion, insuring that the cloth is responsibly produced, using only organic Alpaca fibre and Merino Wool. Founded by Zuhal Kuvan-Mills the Australia-based brand takes inspiration from natural forms to create the simple, stylish and minimalist designs. This enables the collections to remain timeless and appealing to a wider a range of people.
What’s particularly amazing is that the entire process is done by hand. “I span my fibre by hand spinning,” says Kuvan-Mills in order to create yarn. This is then woven into the garments and then dyed using natural materials. “I apply Eco-Print technique such as using Eucalyptus leaves, seed pods to create prints and achieve muted Outback colours of tan, orange, browns and dusty sand colours.”
The designer also tries to ensure that the designs don’t add to environmental issues. Green Embassy, says Kuvan-Mills has a zero waste policy. “All my fabric cuts off became fabric again ( by re-sawing), or textile sculpture and even tiny pieces became textile jewellry to complement my collections.” This in depth focus on sustainability and ethical design is thoroughly thought through, permeating all the elements of Green Embassy’s designs.
