If your clothes could talk, what tales would they tell? That's the question Local Wisdom, a new global project exploring the "craft of use," is posing to people from Melbourne to Vancouver. By asking members of the public to share significant pieces from their wardrobe in a community photo shoot, as well as the unique and often moving stories behind their care and purpose, Local Wisdom aims to change the way we consider, buy, and wear clothing. The project was first conceived of in 2009 by Kate Fletcher, a reader at the London College of Fashion's Centre for Sustainable Fashion and one of the original trailblazers of sustainability in fashion. Already, Local Wisdom has met hundreds of people, snapping their portraits and recording for posterity their relationships with their most treasured garments.
