Gallery: Here’s the Bluetooth-Enabled Handset Glove You Didn’t Ask For

There are few hand gestures more universal than using your thumb and pinkie to mime "call me." Considering the growing trend of integrating technology into every aspect of our lives, it was only a matter of time before someone turned the nonverbal communication into a working way of making phone calls. Meet the "Hi Call," a pair of Bluetooth-equipped conductive gloves that not allows you to operate the touch screen of your smartphone or tablet without risking frostbite but also doubles as an ersatz receiver. Puts a whole new spin on the phrase "talk to the hand," doesn't it?

Produced by Hi Fun, an accessories firm based in Italy, the Hi Call features a tiny speaker in the thumb of the left glove and a mini-microphone in its pinkie. It’s been tested with iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Phone, and, according to the company, is good for 20 hours of talk time on a single charge (or 10 days in standby mode). A set of buttons on the back lets you perform other functions, such as pairing your device and hanging up.

But despite the genius of the idea—we’re suckers for items that serve multiple purposes—we’re not entirely confident the concept will catch on. As cool as talking into your glove is, the fact remains that you’ll be a person…that person…talking into your glove.
