October is nearly upon us, which means it’s time to batten down the hatches for the deluge of breast-cancer-awareness products that inevitably follows. Despite the pink-ribbon angle, there are plenty of reasons to recommend Jane Iredale’s “Bright Future” eye-shadow compact. For one thing, the travel-friendly kit doesn’t appear doused in Pepto Bismol. Another is that the mineral-based makeup contain no phthalates, parabens, artificial dyes, or any chemical additives that might actually give you cancer. The five-color palette (with names like “Peach Sherbet,” “Red Carpet,” and “Dusk”) is pretty but not cloyingly so. Best of all, 100 percent of the item’s profits will go to Living Beyond Cancer, a nonprofit that offers programs and services to women affected by breast cancer, as well as their caregivers and healthcare providers.
