Minding your health is hard work. If you can’t figure out how to eat better, when to exercise, or whether you need to hit the hay sooner rather than later, well, there’s an app for that. Launching later this year is “Up” by Jawbone, a new system that keeps tabs on your physical activity, sleep patterns, and nutrition 24/7. Developed by the mobile-technology company with Yves Béhar of Fuseproject, Up consists of a small wristband-like monitor, a smartphone app that analyses the data, and an open platform that tailors advice while soliciting encouragement from your social networks.
UP, UP, AND AWAY
Unveiled at TEDGlobal in Edinburgh on Wednesday, the high-tech accessory is designed to prevent and reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and some forms of cancer. Many of these ailments can be circumvented through diet, quality sleep, and activity, according to Jawbone CEO Hosain Rahman.

You can even throw down challenges, since a little friendly competition can go a long way to keeping people motivated.
No official word yet on when Up will be available for purchase, or how much it will cost, but Rahman says to expect it in stores no later than the end of the year.
