In John Patrick's world, boys borrow from girls almost as often as girls crib from their grannies. An androgynous sensibility ripples through the Organic designer's Resort 2013 collection, an eclectic melange of cropped recycled-cotton trousers, gingham Mao jackets, and hand-loomed alpaca pullovers thrown indiscriminately together—but wonderfully so—with gauzy recycled-polyester slips, daisy-chain smocked dresses, and padded nylon hoodies.
POP ART
Patrick’s muse? Edit DeAk, co-founder of the ’70s zine Art-Rite, high priestess of the art world, and “epicenter of avant-garde,” Patrick tells Ecouterre backstage between bites of dried fig. The resulting lineup is a slinky “cast of characters,” as he calls them, characterized by broad sweeps of white, petal pink, and olive drab with rowdy punctuations of cobalt and chartreuse.
