When Katy Perry lit up the American Idol stage on Thursday night, we just about blew a fuse. Belting out her chart-topping single “E.T.”—with a little help from Kanye West—the spirited chanteuse gave a high-voltage performance in a skintight white catsuit by CuteCircuit. The costume was nothing if not otherworldly. Bedazzled with sparkling Swarovski crystals and thousands of flashing LEDs, the flashy ensemble prompted Rhianna to tweet, “How f***in smokin is @katyperry as an alien??”

OUT OF THIS WORLD

This isn’t Perry’s first dalliance with wearable technology, nor CuteCircuit either. This time last year, she projected her inner glow in a high-tech CuteCircuit-designed LED gown at the Met Costume Gala.

Creating Perry’s lustrous new threads came easy for London-based designers Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz. “The design inspiration grew directly from Katy’s song,” they say. “We wanted to use shapes and fabrics that would amplify the unique atmosphere of the music and create a stunning visual experience.”

As the label continues to shine more brightly, both figuratively and literally, we look forward to the evolving ways technology and fashion are coming together. Check out the performance in the video below.
