When attending a red carpet event, there’s a lot of pressure on stars to outshine everyone else. Well, Katy Perry, the songbird known for her flashy retro style, didn’t have any trouble stealing the spotlight last night at the Costume Institute Gala Benefit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her dress, a flirty ruffled number with a sexy slit up the leg, didn’t seem out of the ordinary at first, until it started flashing rainbow-colored LEDs. Designed by the wearable-tech gurus at CuteCircuit, the gown featured ultra-slim lights controlled by a switch hidden inside Perry’s bra. We know a couple teenage boys who wish they were that switch right now…

CuteCircuit is no stranger to Ecouterre’s virtual pages. In fact, the dress Perry wore was a toned-down (but just barely) version of Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz’s Galaxy Dress. Perry accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Christian Louboutin heels, according to the Daily Mail. (Perhaps Jimmy Choo’s light-up platforms were too matchy matchy?)
The gown featured ultra-slim lights controlled by a switch hidden inside Perry’s bra.
“I feel like I really have to represent those girls that just go for it and do their own thing and, you know, have their own bit of spontaneity and self confidence,” Perry says of her gown. “I think sometimes in fashion it can get a little stuffy so I wanted to lighten up!” Or in her case, light up.
