Consider the little black dress placed on notice. Crisp whites are right this season, particularly for Portland label Makool, which built its entire Spring/Summer 2011 collection around the original neutral. Made to order in the Oregon city from raw, undyed organic cotton, silk chiffon, vintage lace, antique buttons, and hand-crocheted embellishments, each gauzy alabaster frock is as breezy as it is becoming.

MAKOOL ALERT

From the low-back Aard and its tulle overlay to the Grecian-esque Zon with its cinched-in elastic waist, Makool demonstrates that ivory doesn’t have to be vanilla, especially when you punch it up with unexpected shots of color.

“These are classic organic-cotton summer dresses inspired by air and lightness,” says designer Anisa Makhoul.

“These are classic organic-cotton summer dresses inspired by air and lightness, for a carefree feeling,” Anisa Makhoul, the label’s founder and designer, tells Ecouterre. “Their construction makes them ‘no fuss’; everything is lined and super-easy to wear on a hot summer day.”

Just watch out for melting popsicles.
