If there’s one way to get the menswear-inspired trend right, it’s filching directly from the boys’ department. The aptly named MILCH steals more than a few design cues from the lads, refashioning secondhand men’s trousers and dress shirts to create into gender-bending womenswear.

The Austrian ethical label isn’t shy about its line’s masculine origins, either. Revealing details like French cuffs and rear pockets are flaunted, not camouflaged, to create a vibe that is at once foppish and feminine.

The Victor/Victoria attire includes pinstripe newsboy caps in that are sweetly gamine. Tailored slacks, flipped upside down and converted into halter-neck dresses, invite a closer look at their waistband hems. And a few strategic snips and gathers render a crisp shirt into a breezy—and unmistakably girlish—getup. Girls will be girls, after all.
