There’s more than one way to get your Jolly Roger on, me hearties, and embrace the springtime nautical trend—without looking like boatswain in search of an oar. Ethical footwear company Veja has launched a collection of vegan sneakers that infuses organic cotton canvas and wild Amazonian rubber with crisp whites, summery hues, and maritime elements.
Veja, which was founded in Paris in 2004, means “look” in Brazilian. Accordingly, the label works with co-operatives of organic cotton and rubber producers across Brazil to create its distinctive trainers. (Tauá, which lends its name to the collection, is a village in Northern Brazil where 300 families eke a living from growing organic cotton.)
