“One thing that drives me crazy is when I get an email that starts with, ‘We are a start-up and here is our organic-cotton T-shirt.’ The fact that it’s organic doesn’t make it okay. The business is now about so much more.

“The world does not need another organic T-shirt; we have enough to take us through the next 20 years.”

Timo Rissanen, director of fashion design (AAS) at Parsons The New School for Design, speaking at a Kering-sponsored panel alongside Kering chief François-Henri Pinault, Natural Resources Defense Council director Linda Greer, and Parsons creative adviser Simon Collins in New York City on Thursday about why sustainable business is smart business.
