"Banana Mania" by Rebecca Minkoff
Who says crayons are just for kids? Bloomingdales
tapped some of New York City's finest designers, including Nanette Lepore
, Rebecca Minkoff
, and Rebecca Taylor
, to turn the wax sticks into colorful couture. Each dress drew its inspiration from one of the crayon brand's whimsically named hues, such as "Unmellow Yellow," in the case of Lepore, and "Banana Mania" for Taylor. All in all, 18,000 crayons were used to construct the garments. "My team spent weeks perfectly crafting our dress," Lepore told Today
. "Forget Lego
Oscars, I’m all about crayon dresses!"
