Shoe Factory Collapses in Eastern China, Killing 14 People

A four-story shoe factory in eastern China collapsed over the weekend, killing 14 people and injuring 33 others in the Zhejiang province city of Wenling, said local authorities Monday. Local government and state media report that nine people escaped unharmed. Rescuers extracted 42 people from the rubble and sent them to a hospital, where nine dead. Two workers are still missing, according to China’s Xinhua News. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, although Xinhua reports that workers complained of water leaks from the building’s large rooftop fishing pool just before the collapse.
