Stella McCartney has designed a “feminine and sensual” post-double-mastectomy compression bra in honor of her mother, the late Linda McCartney, who passed away in 1998 following a three-year bout with breast cancer. Unlike most bras of its ilk, which favor sexless utilitarianism over aesthetics, “Louise Listening” pale-pink lace details in addition to technical support and comfort. Featuring a front zip for ease, the bra includes deep sides, a wide underband, and no underwires to hamper the post-surgical healing process.

TOUCHING TRIBUTE

“We wanted to bring something feminine and beautiful into a bra that is taboo. There are so many different emotions attached to the tragic realities of having had a double mastectomy, many cultures are unaccepting and terrible things happen to women both physically and emotionally,” McCartney told the Telegraph. “And we just wanted to make something that allows women undergoing this to have something to be proud of, something with no shame attached. We wanted women to know that you can still be feminine, have your sensuality, have all of the things that are attached to being a woman and that part of your body can still feel beautiful on the outside, as well as the inside.”

The bra can be preordered at www.stellamccartney.com, where it’ll be exclusively available from October 1.

All of this year’s proceeds from the sale of the bra, which McCartney says will be an annual project, will go to the Hello Beautiful Foundation, which is raising funds to build a new breast-cancer support center in London.

To coincide with the launch, McCartney has also unveiled “Alina Playing,” her second lingerie collection to support of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Modeled by Cara Delevingne, the balconette bra, soft bra, and bikini brief will see a percentage of their profits go to three breast-cancer charities: the Linda McCartney Centre in Liverpool, England; the National Breast Cancer Foundation in the United States; and the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Australia.
