Looking for a fashionable way to celebrate Earth Day? Vote with your dollars! From now until April 30, ethical fashion house Stewart + Brown will be donating 20 percent of all full-price purchases to Riverkeeper, a member-supported watchdog organization that defends the Hudson River, its wildlife, tributaries, and the drinking water supply of millions of New Yorkers. To spread the word, Stewart + Brown has enlisted the aid of heiress and socialite Amanda Hearst, who chairs Riverkeeper’s junior council.

PRECIOUS COMMODITY

Clean drinking water is a basic human right and it’s a shame that for many it is considered a luxury,” Hearst says. “As a New Yorker, I realize how lucky I am to have access to drinkable water and it is almost entirely due to the efforts of Riverkeeper.”

“Clean drinking water is a basic human right,” Hearst says.

Less than 50 years ago, 20-mile stretches of the Hudson were left for dead, according to Hearst. “Today, it is one of the richest bodies of water on earth,” she says. “The battle continues, but Riverkeeper will never quit, and for that we are all forever indebted to them.”

Be sure to behold Stewart + Brown’s Earth Day 2011 collection, which boasts fluid silhouettes in fanciful blue hues—designs no doubt inspired by the precious, clean water they seek to preserve.
