Because of the handcrafted nature of the garments, no two are alike. Dawson and Erwiah said they challenged the artisans to move beyond the bounds of their experience while honoring the time-honored traditions that define their culture.

The use of indigo dyes, in particular, drove much of the collection’s look and feel. “Natural indigo dyeing is a centuries’ old technique which influenced much of this collection,” Dawson said.

Equally important was the clothing’s ease of wear, something that was personally important to the two frequent fliers. “We live between L.A., N.Y., and Accra. Travel is a big part of our lifestyle,” Dawson said. “We aimed to design functional pieces that are versatile and anything but basic.”

Mission accomplished?

“These pieces have taken us from day to night on many occasions,” Dawson affirmed.
