Suno’s Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty have never shied from clashing, prismatic prints that almost appear etched in fabric. At their inaugural runway show at New York Fashion Week, however, the mood was noticeably more subdued, although the pared-back tack had an equally strong impact. For Spring/Summer 2012, Suno played up its trademark African-inspired patterns, which Osterweis and Beatty reduced to stark black-and-white line drawings. Enlivened with muted pops of buttercup, teal, and mustard, along with glints of metallic red, the overarching feel was one of elevated construction meets ethnic, with buttoned-up collars and unexpected back details to round out the ladylike silhouettes.
