Lady Gaga should get in touch with Tamara Kostianovsky. The Argentina-raised, New York City-based designer turns unwanted textiles, including her own clothing, into semi-realistic depictions of flesh, bone, and gristle. Now showing at Maison et Objet in Paris, Kostianovsky’s creations hang like freshly butchered carcasses on meat hooks. As symbols of “violation and murder,” the pieces are meant to disturb, Kostianovsky says. “My intent is to confront the viewers with the real and grotesque nature of violence, offering a context for reflecting about the vulnerability of our physical existences,” she adds.
