The Rana Plaza Disaster in Bangladesh: Taking Stock Half a Year On

Watch a livestream of the the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre’s fourth annual event at the Ford Foundation in New York City at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The symposium will feature a keynote speech from Kalpona Akter, executive director of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity and herself a former child garment worker, followed by a panel discussion hosted by Steven Greenhouse of the New York Times. In addition to Akter, the panel will include Lauren Compere, managing director of Boston Common Asset Management; Judy Gearhart, executive director of the International Labor Rights Forum; Harpreet Kaur, South Asia researcher at the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre; Sarah Labowitz, co-director of the New York University Stern Center for Business and Human Rights; and Chloë Poynton, manager of advisory services at BSR.
