California's attorney general took the maker of Brazilian Blowout to task in February for not warning consumers that two of its hair-straightening formulations emit formaldehyde gas, a known carcinogen. The settlement agreement, the first enforced under California's Safe Cosmetics Act, included $600,000 in penalties and fines. The company also had to fork out $4.5 million in damages in the wake of a class-action lawsuit.
