Better late than never? In March, the House Energy and Commerce Committee convened the first official Congressional hearing on cosmetics safety in 30 years. As expected, industry representatives dominated the proceedings, so we're still a long way from any meaningful reform of existing federal cosmetics laws. Considering those same laws haven’t been updated since 1938—or since Franklin D. Roosevelt was president—any attention from lawmakers is some progress at least.
