Scandal erupted in July after reports emerged that Team U.S.A.’s Olympics uniforms were manufactured in China. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was a particularly vocal critic. “I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again,” Reid told ABC News. “If they have to wear nothing but a symbol that says U.S.A. on it, painted by hand, that is what they should wear.” Later, the news outlet reported that all of Team U.S.A.’s outfits, plus the associated memorabilia, would have brought a whopping $1 billion to the U.S. economy had they been made domestically.
