BEAR NECESSITIES
Ordinarily $60, the FEED 5 bear (a.k.a. “Plumpy”) is the brainchild of FEED’s Lauren Bush Lauren and her mother, Sharon Bush, who launched Teddy Share in 2008 to produce stuffed animals that support children’s causes.
The designer bears will be available for bidding on Charitybuzz until Dec. 20.
For every 16-inch tall bear purchased, FEED will provide five treatments of Plumpy’nut, a high-nutrient, vitamin-fortified peanut paste with a 98 percent success rate of saving lives, to severely malnourished children in developing countries.
Proceeds from the bears’ designer counterparts, which will be available for bidding until Dec. 20., will support the United Nations World Food Programme’s school feeding effort.
