The Humane Cosmetics Act is inching closer to be a reality, as 133 cosmetics companies pledged their support this week. If passed, The Act, started by Representative Jim Moran, would ban all animal testing for cosmetics in the USA, a feat that would change the cosmetic industry for the better. The Humane Cosmetics Act is already supported by 28 countries in the European Union, as well as Norway, Israel and India.

The 133 companies that have pledged their allegiance are removing animal testing from their repertoire, sending a message to the entire industry that they will no longer tolerate animal cruelty. The pledge by companies such as Kiss My Face, Lush, Body Shop and Paul Mitchell has shown the cosmetic world that they are serious about removing the ugliness of animal cruelty from the beauty industry.

Representative Moran, a Northern Virginia Democrat and Co-Chair of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, is the forerunner of the Humane Cosmetics Act, which he added to his active agenda.  Moran announced in May 27 that the 133 companies have joined the act, and hopes that their inclusion will encourage other companies to step forward and eliminate animal testing from all of their products. These companies’ support will also help to boost advancement of the act, which is already supported by Humane Society of the United States, Cruelty Free International and the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics.

The Humane Cosmetic Act would not only ban inhumane practices on animals in the cosmetic industry, but also to bolster advance scientific technology that is also more cost effective.
