We don’t know what to envy more: Cate Blanchett’s Oscar-winning acting chops or her alabaster complexion. Although the actress swears by SK-II, the Japanese skincare line for which she’s global ambassador, Blanchett has another weapon in her beauty arsenal—one that’s more DIY than BUY. “Olive and macadamia oils are really good for your complexion. Put one of them on in the shower and they make your skin zing,” she told British InStyle several issues ago. “I incorporate them into a homemade scrub with grapefruit juice and sea salt—a beauty trick taught to me by a friend of mine.”
Ashley Weatherford, a writer for The Cut, made a go of it, mixing half a cup of sea salt, the juice of a quarter of a pink grapefruit, and two tablespoons of organic macadamia oil to create a “thick, not-too-watery paste…[that] felt fine and grainy, like a microdermabrasion exfoliant.”
Did the concoction do the trick? Weatherford says her skin felt smooth and rejuvenated—”Benjamin Butt-ery,” even. Hail to the Queen.
