To celebrate its first anniversary, Pratt Institute’s Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator is hosting its inaugural Positive Impact Awards. The November 16 event, which is free and open to the public, promises to be a blast. In addition to honoring 15 individuals who have helped advance sustainability in the fashion industry—full disclosure: your author is among them—revelers will be able to partake of the Venture Fellow’s open studios while enjoying special “Positive Impact” cocktails and locally produced treats. To sweeten the occasion, the BF+DA is giving away a limited-edition alpaca-and-merino-wool scarf, to be created on-site by executive director Debera Johnson, Venture Fellow Mandy Kordal, and knitwear director Kelly Puertas on one of its state-of-the-art knitting machines. What better way to support #MaketheFutureHere? Enter now to win, and don’t forget to RSVP if you’re in the neighborhood!

ABOUT THE PRATT INSTITUTE’S BF+DA
The BF+DA is an initiative launched by Pratt Institute that provides designers with the resources they need to transform their ideas into successful businesses. With over $2,000,000 in initial funding pledged by Pratt Institute, the State of New York, New York City, and the borough of Brooklyn, the BF+DA brings high-potential fashion designers, industrial designers, and technologists together under one roof.
The BF+DA is a hub for ethical fashion and design. The BF+DA provides its Venture Fellows and Members access to on-site business mentorship, small-run apparel production, no minimum knitting services, digital fabrication services, showroom space, and retail sites. The BF+DA offers sustainable strategies consulting, materials sourcing, and links to existing NYC manufacturers.
The BF+DA Research Fellows explore production, materiality, and wearable technology, connecting technology to a 21st century vision that seeks to redefine the fashion industry.
