DENIM DARLING

“At Wool and the Gang, our ultimate aim is to produce the best yarns out there, while always sourcing with care and so we are always on the lookout for upcycling or recycling opportunities,” Harwood said in a statement. “And with Billie Jean we therefore feel we’ve really hit the jackpot!”

The yarns are available in two flavors of worsted: a “Raw” version that features 100 percent upcycled denim, and a “Dirty” one that blends upcycled denim and cotton for an amplified mélange effect.

Knitters and crocheters can choose to buy the yarns à la carte or as part of a kit that includes everything you need to make a sweater, a cardigan, three different tops, or a pair of shorts, all with the look and feel of your favorite well-worn jeans.

Prices range from $25 for a crochet-it-yourself spaghetti-strap tank to $52 for a knit-it-yourself cocoon-style cardigan.

“The yarn is truly a result of a pioneering sustainable production method,” Harwood added. “It is absolutely lovely to work with and is made from that most iconic of all modern fabrics: denim.”
